Webinar Recap: New Modules in the Attivio Platform

In case you missed it, here’s a recap of last week’s webinar, New Modules in the Attivio Platform, presented by Attivio’s Director of Solution Architecture, Brian Flynn.

During the session, Brian reviewed two new modules that are included in the Attivio platform:  Query Frames and the Search UI Toolkit, or “SUIT” for short.

Query Frames

As you may know, the Attivio platform includes a patented capability called Query-time JOIN. This combines indexed structured & unstructured data dynamically to answer questions like “What are the customers in my region saying about the new products they bought in the past 90 days?”

Two aspects of the platform support this:

  1. Using NLP and text analytics to understand unstructured data in an email or chat, that expresses sentiment and extracts entities that are related to the query
  2. Marrying this with the structured data found in systems of record, like CRM or other system that captures what products were purchased by whom and when

All of this happens dynamically at search time to deliver relevant results. So how does Attivio take this type of question and turn it into an experience that’s highly relevant for the end-user application?

Using Query Frames, the platform understands and interprets a user’s intent of a specific query, matching it to query frames that have been defined and understood by the system.  The query frame understands the elements of a question to find the right results.

For example, if a user enters the following search: “Show me the latest reports from Kash Rangan”, query frames help the system understand that the user has expressed an intent about:

  1. TIME: They want the most recent reports by Kash Rangan.
  2. SCOPE OF CONTENT: They want a report, not a video or a image.
  3. AUTHOR: They want content from Kash Ragan, not another author.

Query frames then help drive the business logic that seeks out and returns the right results to the search.

Open Source UXD

We provide SDKs and APIs to allow customers to build their own applications on top of the Attivio platform.  But if no UI stack exists within an organization, we can provide one.  Our Search User Interface Toolkit (SUIT) enables companies to shorten the time it takes to develop & deploy a search solution into their organization.  It includes integrations into the Attivio platform and incorporates best practices for search applications for specific use cases.

Brian walked through one of the templates included in the platform that he said enables companies to get about 70% of the way to a robust search application. The template includes insights about the index (entities, document types, languages, etc.) as well as results frameworks that facilitate the consumption of results by end-users.  These templates can be customized further depending on a company’s requirements.
