As you may have heard, Attivio is growing. We've added some really good people to our team in the last few months - so many in fact that we had to put rows of desks in where we use to have common 'hang out' areas. It's sad to see some of the big round lunch tables go away, but in today's economy, these are really good problems to have. We're moving to new headquarters in the Fall, so common area will be making a comeback soon.
I thought I'd lay out some of the reasons why we're having such success and why Attivio is such an awesome place to work.
Free Lunch Friday
You always hear there's no such thing as a free lunch, but every Friday here at Attivio, it happens. Everyone in the company is invited as well as any prospects, customers, partners or analysts that happen to be in the office for a meeting. We have lunch brought in from a number of different places around the Newton area where we are based. The informal company favorites seem to be Blue Ribbon BBQ, New Mother India, and Comellas. Now that we're spread across three floors, it's a good chance to mix it up with the folks in other departments. We work in our monthly company meetings to coincide with lunch since everyone is already together.
At the last meeting we talked about bonus payout for last year. Yeah, you heard me right, BONUSES!
Employee incentives
Attivio really values its employees and does a great job of rewarding and incentivizing people to make the company better. From referral bonuses for new hires to finders' fees for new prospects, we're all about creating new and inventive ways to make or save money and return some of that to the employees. I know I already mentioned bonuses but did I mention there is also a blogging program here?
Great offices
We don't have a 128 business park or Prudential Tower address and our offices are a little tough to describe to visitors but it pays off. We have some really cool space in Newtonville in an old factory building from the 20's. In return, we get to walk to lunch in the area like you would down town but drive to work without all the traffic hassle associated with going into the city. It's sad that we're going to have to leave this place soon, but we're maxed out in terms of people per square foot/circuit in here. Our HR and management staff is currently looking for a new space, with an October target date.
Great problems to solve
Whether it's how to do real time indexing with relational join queries or how to sell software in the current economic environment, we solve some big problems that require a lot of hard work. As an engineer, there's nothing better than building something cool that makes something really complex look really easy. If that's your kind of challenge, we have a nice long list of stuff for you to work on.
Agile development
Our development process is based on the Agile Development Process. Basically that means we set development goals for one sprint's worth of work. Our sprints here are 3 weeks with one week for reflection, and then it all starts again. This means we get to reprioritize our efforts based on customer demand, progress on the previous sprint's work or changing business direction. As a developer it means you don't get bogged down in one task for 6+ months with no end in sight. As a sales person it means you get new stuff to sell every month or two.
If you'd like to apply for any of our open positions feel free to click here and don't forget to mention that I referred you.
