Questex Media Chooses Attivio Active Intelligence Engine

Wednesday, June 10, 2009, Company Release

Attivio Enables Leading Integrated Media and Information Provider to Create Unique
Online Experience for Portfolio of Travel Publications

Attivio, Inc. today announced that Questex Travel Group, a division of Questex Media Group, Inc., has selected the Attivio Active Intelligence EngineTM (AIE) to transition its print publications to the Web and consolidate them into an agile content network (ACN). Using AIE, Questex will be able to create new revenue streams by leveraging its existing content to quickly and seamlessly develop new targeted pages and micro sites.

"Increasingly, consumers are turning to online and digital properties as a primary source of information and news," said Gideon Dean, EVP at Questex. "We recognized this need and made the decision to partner with a provider that could help us more deeply engage new and existing readers of our market leading Travel publications by making all of our content available online in an integrated and innovative format. We chose Attivio for its experience and credibility in the industry and its proven record of helping companies succeed in a digital world."

Questex selected Attivio's Active Intelligence Engine for its ability to rapidly create searchable content by combining disparate data sources into a single index that contains internal and external content, user-generated content, pictures and video. In addition to significantly reducing development time, the unified index also creates a common platform to develop a standard search interface, faceted navigation, alerts and improved relevancy throughout Questex Travel Group websites. The new sites will incorporate linguistics techniques such as lemmatization and spell checking to improve the reader's experience; concept and entity extraction to automate search engine optimization; automatic page linking to create hyperlinks as relevant content is added and tunable relevancy to emphasize more recent content as well as preferred data sources.

Through Attivio's Rich Internet Applications (RIA), Questex Travel Group will also be able to increase viewer loyalty and user transactions by delivering a more personalized online experience for each viewer without requiring the hassle of the repeated input of personal information. AIE also increases personalization through the seamless creation of micro sites, which are subsets of the branded site that include content and community features focused on a particular area within the travel industry, for example, traveling in Italy, beach and spa resorts or adventure vacations.

"In the publishing industry, numbers are king; in order to be successful, publications need to develop a loyal and sizeable consumer base, while optimizing operations around innovation and cost control," said Ali Riaz, CEO of Attivio. Increasingly, creating a unique online experience is becoming a must-have to keep readers engaged and attract new subscribers. Through Attivio's industry‐leading vision and capabilities, Questex will be able to achieve these goals and better meet its go‐to‐market objectives, as well as develop an agile foundation for future product offerings."
