AIE provides unified information access to content, data & media

Not only do we all deal with enormous amounts of information, but we are often frustrated when we need access to related information that may be locked into incompatible formats or locations. Getting accurate, current and complete information can be a challenge, especially when you need it right now. What if all that information was joined together, and you could access whatever you need with a simple query?.

Attivio's Active Intelligence Engine^TM (AIE) provides a universal index that aggregates the information you need from documents, media and data stores, regardless of the format.

Information in Context

Relational databases offer the advantage of labeling data with information about the data, such as Last Name or Account Number. Content and content files typically include little or none of this metadata (labeling about the type of information). That lack of metadata complicates the search for specific information in unstructured content such as documents.

When data from databases is indexed by the AIE platform, the relational labels are retained, which simplifies finding information, especially when you need more than one piece of information on a subject (e.g., name, account number, account status). What's even more valuable is that AIE extracts metadata from unstructured content and stores that information in the universal index, which simplifies finding information about the content. The metadata is JOIN-ed to content and other data, so information relationships are intact and robust (e.g., now you can quickly retrieve not just name, account number and account status, but also call logs and emails regarding the customer). And users can add additional "tags" of metadata, which adds new dimensions to the indexed information.

Now the "findability" of information inside content is just as straightforward as the findability of data inside a database, which saves time spent digging manually through the volumes of documents that match a typical search.

Retrieving Information Quickly

Along with the benefit of a universal index for all types of information, you need a simple method of retrieving the information you need. Database information is easy to find because of the metadata. But asking for the information is more complicated, requiring special knowledge and an understanding of the data model. On the other hand, the method of asking for information via traditional search engines is simple: just type natural language into a search box.

Again, AIE gives you the best of both worlds by giving users the ability to assemble all related information quickly without designing reports or learning a query language. Users can get any information - even structured data - by typing natural language in a search box.
