"IDC believes strongly that BI and search are converging, and that certain segments of the market are demanding unified access to information. This is a hard problem to solve across database and content repositories. Matters of normalization, differing schemas, format types, and a variety of legacy applications make it difficult. In the past two years, a very few search vendors have developed new architectures that blend the inverted index with the database. These new architectures are a leap forward, but we believe that Attivio’s new architecture is another leap beyond them. The potential large impact of these newer architectures is that they may replace many of the uses for data warehouses."

  • AIE natively supports all European languages, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hebrew, Arabic (and various dialects), Hindi, and Pashtu. It also supports entity translation, for example, understanding proper names in multiple languages (searching for Saddam Hussein returns results in both English and Arabic).

  • AIE supports synonymic searches, synonym dictionaries, and the ability to edit them.

  • AIE indexes all terms and allows you to select whether or not you wish to filter stop words or not. AIE also natively supports text, dates, and numeric fields and understands how to sort on them properly.

  • AIE uses a probabilistic relevancy model, and allows tuning via explicit or implicit feedback. With AIE you can let the engine do its job automatically without touching a thing, or you can adjust the relevancy model through any of its models.

  • AIE strives for transparency for all its search algorithms. There is no “black box” approach to the AIE model; all methods are documented and accessible. AIE results are always consistent.

  • Unlike traditional search engines, Attivio AIE can dynamically generate the most relevant facets and their ranking order for a given query based on its results.

  • AIE provides both entity extraction and facet generation.

  • Attivio AIE is written entirely in Java as a single image. With little technical knowledge, you can install the engine and index and run the included demo all in under 15 minutes.

  • Attivio is unlike the legacy search vendors in that it designed its product from the beginning as a simple, efficiently small package, easily installed and managed. The core engine for the current version is under 15MB in size and yet it performs all the major search capabilities of its much larger competitors.

  • All Attivio investment is dedicated to the advancement of a new breed of information access technology, and we have a separate, active research department focused only on search innovations.
