The Attivio AIE platform provides the flexibility and performance to access intelligence across the enterprise. AIE includes complete enterprise search software capabilities that extend beyond content alone to include data and media.

Flexible workflows
AIE’s customizable workflows make unified information access a single, integrated process, spanning content ingestion, query processing and triggers/alerts. In addition to linear processes, workflows can include conditional logic (branching), loops for handling embedded objects (e.g., ZIP files, email attachments), duplication of messages to multiple endpoints and many other features. Time-consuming steps can be offloaded or run in a batch to avoid slowing the process.

Single API for all system processes
All client communications with the AIE engine are managed through a single, simple API. This

same API is used for sending new content for ingestion, sending queries, retrieving query results and issuing administration commands. This single API architecture allows greater flexibility and reusability of workflows and sub-flows.

Extreme performance and scalability
AIE can scale as data and query volume increase or performance requirements change. This Add-As-You-Go model, gives customers the freedom to buy only the hardware they need without risk of costly upgrades, lengthy re-indexing and inevitable downtime. AIE’s core product has less than a 20 MB footprint.
UNIFIED INFORMATION ACCESS
Unified access to structured and unstructured information allows you to gain insight that previously could have gone unnoticed. For example, with unified information access, you can issue one query to retrieve an analysis of text in customer surveys and online consumer forums combined with structured data about products and sales from database systems.

Broad, secure connectivity
AIE provides more than 400 connectors and document transformers for all of the most common office formats, email, text, PDF, CSV, RDBMS, HTML, XML, graphics, audio, video, OCR and more. All information is secure, with users granted appropriate access rights.

Query time JOIN
The JOIN command in SQL is the key command of the relational database environment, defining the cross-section of results among two or more tables. AIE’s unique JOIN feature extends across structured and unstructured data to JOIN any two objects that share a common property. AIE extracts data at index time and then JOINs structured and unstructured content dynamically on any field or dimension.

Powerful linguistics functions
AIE includes state-of-the-art linguistics capabilities that refine searches based on content syntax and semantics and can be applied when querying in a single language or across multiple languages. Functions include stemming and lemmatization, tokenization and extraction of noun phrases, entities and concepts.

Broad language support
AIE supports deep analysis across dozens of languages including English, Western European, CJK, Arabic, Hebrew and many others. Special and local dictionaries and lexicons can also be plugged in.
ACTIVE INTELLIGENCE
Active intelligence uses real time processing and alerting to identify trends or events, then launches actions according to specified rules – to write to a database, trigger a process or provide live email or phone alerts to users. The impact is far reaching for a wide range of enterprise decision management (EDM) and business activity monitoring (BAM) applications.

Real-time updates
AIE supports Real-Time Fields for instant updates of certain fields without needing to retrieve and re-process the rest of the document. Any field in the document can be defined as a Real-Time Field. Real-Time Fields are very useful for storing security information (Access Control List = ACL), stock levels, “Online/Offline” status, prices, etc. AIE also supports real-time streaming of data and incremental indexing so fresh data is immediately available for querying. The AIE platform allows high-performance ingestion of content, at a rate of 30 GB/hr, with more than 100 million records indexed on a single server.

Real-time events and triggers
Any AIE search query can be saved as an alert.

The user can also specify the frequency and the action to be taken. Alert queries can be executed continuously, when new data is added to the index, or at a predefined frequency.

Real-time actions
Users can create business actions so when a similar event happens the system can automatically detect it and react. Actions can be as simple as alerting users via email and SMS or more sophisticated, such as updating a database or triggering a CRM application.

Easy to install, configure and use
AIE is highly flexible, customizable and scalable. Users can customize the AIE schema (components and workflows used to ingest content, process queries and handle results) or operate without any schema at all. Administrators can customize the system to add new stages and workflows and define multiple schemas for multi-tenant environments.

Optimized relevance
AIE has great out-of-the-box relevancy, which can then be refined further. Customers can create their own relevancy scoring profiles, so user-defined weights (also called boosting) can be set at design time or runtime for a user, group of users, or per query.

Comprehensive search tools
AIE provides seamless handling of all standard formats (keyword search, exact phrase search, Boolean, +/-, proximity searches, fuzzy/conceptual search, etc.).

Fuzzy search is another powerful AIE feature, allowing results to include documents likely to be relevant even if they do not exactly correspond to the search. Fuzzy matching can use a wide variety of language tools – spell checking and suggestions, synonym expansion, language dictionaries or content, synonym and acronym dictionaries.

Better navigation with dynamic facets
Historically, facet (or navigator) browsing fields had to be predefined. In contrast, AIE’s Dynamic Facet Generation automatically recommends the most relevant facets and the order in which they should be displayed. You can also include or preclude certain facets, or combine dynamic and static facets.
With simple integration, true incremental scalability, and a tiny footprint, AIE can also be easily embedded with other websites and applications.
